MIDLAND -- A chemical release of ethyline diamine at Dow Corning Corp. lasted "a few minutes" and did not endanger workers or the public, said Communications Representative Mike Kreager.
A leak in a relief value occurred at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, he said.
"We did testing downwind and did not detect any material outside the fence line," Kreager said. "At 7:24 p.m. it was downgraded to 'minor,' the lowest emergency level at the plant."
Ethyline diamine has an odor similar to ammonia and can cause "irritation" to people and animals, he said.
Roger Garner, Midland County emergency services director, said monitoring equipment in the area did not detect a presence of the chemical.
Authorities briefly closed the intersection of Salzburg and Waldo roads to that emergency responders would have clearance. t
