DEQ Approves Dow Dioxin Information Plan

(TV5-AP) Midland--Dow Chemical will tell residents of Midland about the risks associated with dioxin contamination.

People living downstream from Midland in the Tittabawassee River floodplain will receive the same information. State environmental officials have approved Dow’s communications plan. The company will provide general information on dioxins to the public and tell them what they can do to reduce exposure.

Dow also will set up and maintain information centers in Midland and the Tittabawassee River floodplain area, and will pay for advisory signs to be placed at parks and other public facilities along the river.

Dow and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality are negotiating terms of a cleanup of dioxin in the region.
