Other comments from Granholm's year-end news conference

Associated Press
---
ON DIOXIN CONTAMINATION: Granholm says she plans to veto a bill that would ban state environmental regulators from marking a piece of land as contaminated without testing it or getting the property owner to agree it's tainted. The bill was introduced after the state Department of Environmental Quality told homeowners along the Tittabawassee River in Midland and Saginaw counties that their land was polluted with dioxin, a toxin, from the nearby Dow Chemical Co. plant.
"I think we can get there," she said. "There's a better way to frame it."

ON DETROIT SPORTS: "I want to see the Lions succeed like I want the state economy to succeed, but I'm not going to weigh in on (whether to fire Lions President) Matt Millen. The Pistons are looking pretty good."
---
ON REVITALIZING DETROIT: "We are a state that cannot thrive unless we have a vibrant major city. ... Our state economy is tied to the fortunes of our largest city. Our image is tied to the fortunes of our largest city. We just need to have a coordinated plan."
---
ON NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS: Asked if she kept her 2005 resolution to ride her bike more, she said, "I did get the bike." She added that she hasn't thought yet about what her 2006 resolution will be.
