Midland Daily News 09/29/2005
With three months left before The Dow Chemical Co. is due to set forth plans to
handle regional dioxin contamination, company officials are meeting today with
governmental agencies in Lansing. The meeting includes officials from The
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, the U.S. Department of Interior, the U.S. Department of Justice, the
Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and
the Michigan Attorney General. Dow’s work plans are due by year-end and are a
requirement of the hazardous waste operating license issued by the Michigan
Department of Environmental Quality in June 2003. "It’s the first step in the
next phase of the overall process," said DEQ spokesman Bob McCann.
