A documentary film about Dow Chemical and the dioxin controversy will play The 303 Collective, Adams at Hamilton, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Jeannie Coallier Catholic Worker House is sponsoring a free showing of the 90-minute film titled "The Long Shadow." It was released in 2003.

Members of the Lone Tree Council, an environmental activist group, will lead a discussion after the screening.

"The Long Shadow" was filmed by Stephen Meador, then a graduate student at Michigan State University and now a freelance journalist.

It highlights the physical, economic and political plight of three families living on the Tittabawassee River floodplain, which has registered high levels of dioxin -- downriver of the Dow Chemical plant.

Dioxins are an unwanted byproduct of incineration and some chemical processes, and are known to cause numerous health problems. v
