Was there a special federal force among the tight security at the Dow Chemical Annual Shareholders meeting this month?

The question was raised after about a half dozen people wearing suits, radio ear pieces and no other identification but a small Department of Homeland Security lapel pin were spotted by WSGW News. When asked they stated they were Dow employees. Impersonating a federal agent is a felony but Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke doesn't advise it but says it doesn't appear that Dow broke the law.

Manager of Dow corporate communications Terri McNeill says the company never meant to give the impression that the anti-terrorism taskforce was at the meeting. She says the pins were nothing more than a signal between security teams and were not selected for any other reason. McNeill says Dow has a good working relationship with Homeland Security -- working with them at their various operations nationwide.

The May 12th meeting featured the tightest security ever for the annual shareholder's event -- including the first time Dow ever used metal detectors to search packages and purses coming in to the Midland Center for the Arts.
