Dioxin Resolution Fall 2002
Whereas, according to EPA, Dioxin is one of the most toxic substances known to man;
Whereas, dioxin has numerous adverse health effects such as cancer, hormonal disruption, infertility, impaired child development, suppression of the immune system, endometriosis, and diabetes;
Whereas, children bear the highest exposures, and current levels of dioxin in the bodies of the general population are already in the range at which health effects are know to occur in laboratory animals, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency;
Whereas, the Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has classified the Tittabawassee River Floodplain as an "INDETERMINATE HEALTH RISK";
Whereas the Tittabawassee River is part of the Saginaw Bay Watershed;
Whereas the source of this dioxin is the Dow Chemical Co. in Midland Michigan
Therefore, be it resolved that we the undersigned residents and taxpayers of the Watershed call upon the DEQ, MDCH, and ATSDR to:
